时间:2014年10月24日(周五)中午12点15分
地点:教职工文化活动中心多功能厅
Topic: Origami Engineering: Applications in Impact and Structural Engineering
Speech Introduction: Origami engineering is a rapidly-growing research field concerned with the use of folded plate geometries for engineering structures and devices. Origami-inspired applications have been developed in nearly every engineering discipline, including structural, aeronautics, aerospace, impact, biomedical, robotics, manufacturing, and materials. Dr Gattas will present an overview of his research in origami-inspired deployable/modular housing and energy-absorbing folded-core sandwich structures.
Speaker Introduction:Joseph Gattas is Lecturer in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Queensland (UQ). He completed an undergraduate degree at UQ in 2009 with first-class honors the University Medal. In 2010 he was awarded the prestigious Australian John Monash Scholarship to complete a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. He has completed projects looking at origami-inspired applications for the UK Ministry of Defence and the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
